The Government of Sri Lanka has declared the first day of July as the official language day of Sri Lanka and the week from 01 to 05 of the same month as the official language week of Sri Lanka. During the official language week, the 4th of July has been declared as Youth Day in order to increase youth awareness and understanding of the importance of the official language policy and the role of languages.

The Official Language Commission organized a special program for the students of the National Youth Service Council for Youth Day based on the particular theme of "Blooming of Language" as one of the celebrations of Official Language Week in the year 2022.

Official Language Policy and the Importance of Learning a Second Language were the topics of the program, which took place on the 1st of September 2022, at the National Youth Service Council.
