Sinhala Language Day
[7]March 2, 2021
On March 2nd, 1815, Wariyapola Sumangala Thero hoisted the Sri Lankan flag against the British Regime. March 2nd, 1944 is the day when Kumaratunga Munidasa, an eminent 20th century scholar passed way. Based on these two incidences the 2nd of March has been declared by the government of Sri Lanka as Sinhala Language Day.
Marking the day, an awareness programme was organized by the Official Languages Commission for electronic and print media institutions about the proper usage of Sinhala Language, at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute.
